Now Hiring: Stewardship Manager

The Sussex County Land Trust (SCLT) is seeking a passionate, driven professional to join our growing team as a Stewardship Manager.

As we celebrate 25 years of conservation and continue expanding our portfolio of protected lands, this new full-time position represents an important investment in the long-term care and activation of the places we protect.

About the Role

The Stewardship Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that SCLT’s parks, preserves, and conservation lands are well-maintained, thoughtfully developed, and accessible to the community.

This position will lead the implementation of master plans across SCLT properties, manage capital improvement projects, oversee land stewardship and maintenance operations, coordinate contractors, and build a robust volunteer stewardship program.

The Stewardship Manager will work closely with SCLT staff, Board committees, public partners, and community volunteers to bring our properties to life while preserving the natural resources that make Sussex County special.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead implementation of master plans across SCLT properties
  • Manage capital projects including trails, parking areas, signage, and public access improvements
  • Oversee stewardship and maintenance of all SCLT-owned and managed lands
  • Manage vendor contracts (mowing, landscaping, infrastructure, etc.)
  • Develop and grow a volunteer stewardship program
  • Support land acquisition efforts and stewardship planning for new properties
  • Maintain organized project and property records using Microsoft 365 and SharePoint

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills
  • Comfortable working both in the field and in an office environment
  • Experienced in land stewardship, parks management, or a related field
  • Confident managing contractors and multiple projects at once
  • Passionate about conservation and community engagement
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience
  • Health insurance allowance
  • Housing option (if applicable)
  • Annual employer contribution (up to $4,000) toward a pre-tax retirement plan
  • 20 days Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Mileage reimbursement at the federal rate
