Sussex County Protected Properties

This illustration is an overview of protected lands, natural areas, agricultural preservation, forestry conservation easements, municipalities and developed lands in Sussex County.  Highlighted in yellow are properties that have been protected by the Sussex County Land Trust.

According to the 2018 Comprehensive Land Use Plan for Sussex County, approximately 95,000 acres have been developed (16%), 227,000 acres have been protected (40%) and the remaining 256,000 acres (44%) that are neither developed or protected.

The Sussex County Land Trust Board of Trustees uses this map as a guide and foundation for future land acquisition initiatives.

Properties for consideration are evaluated based on ecological value, proximity to other protected areas and open space, historical and cultural interests, access to existing public recreation and public benefit.
