Forest of the Broadkill

In 2023, the Sussex County Land Trust in partnership with Sussex County Council acquired +/- 294 acres known as the Forest of the Broadkill Preserve located on the south side of Ingram Branch, a tributary and headwaters of the Broadkill River.  The three contiguous properties are a combination of fields and hardwoods located off Gravel Hill Road (Rt. 30) and Shingle Point Road near Milton.  The Trust will hold a conservation easement on the property and will be responsible for the development of a public recreation component featuring an accessible trail system for public use.  This property is strategically located in a rapid growing area surrounded by a number of new housing developments and was acquired as an open space protection and public recreation initiative.
