Sussex
County Council
Proclamation:
Proclaiming March as
“Land Preservation Month”
in Sussex County
WHEREAS, we are ethically bound to care for our most
precious
resource in Sussex County – land; and
WHEREAS, adequate areas
of protection are necessary to sustain
economic development, agriculture, and recreation; and
WHEREAS, the Sussex
County Comprehensive Plan, dated January 1,
2003 calls for green-way programs that will directly provide
recreational
opportunities as well as interconnections of various
recreational facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Sussex
County Council joined a partnership with the
Sussex County Land Trust in a joint effort to provide public
and private
funding on an annual basis for the purchase of open space;
and
WHEREAS, the Sussex
County Council has partnered with the State of
Delaware, Department of Agriculture, in protecting over
1,200 acres of
Agriculture land in the last two years;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, in support of our
responsibility to protect open space in Sussex County, the
Sussex County
Council does hereby proclaim the month of March as Land
Preservation Month
and encourages the residents of Sussex County to participate
in programs
throughout the month recognizing the importance of this most
precious
resource.
